118th Jayanthi celebrations of HH Pujyasri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji at Srimatam, Kanchipuram - A report

The 118th Jayanthi Mahotsavam of His Holiness Pujyasri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji, 68th Pontiff of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, was celebrated at Srimatam, Kanchipuram in the presence of Their Holinesses Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji and Pujyasri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji.

The 3-day Jayanthi celebrations commenced on the 12th June. Vedic Pandits performed Chaturveda Parayanam. Sanskrit Scholars took part in the Vidwat Sadas. Spiritual discourses were held every day.

Jayanthi Day Celebrations

On the 14th June - Jayanthi Day, the mahotsavam commenced early in the morning with Mangala Vadyam recital in Srimatam. Visesha Puja and Abhishekam was performed at the Adhisthanam of His Holiness. Chaturveda Parayanam was performed. Maharudram Poornahuti was performed. His Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji performed the Kalasabhishekam at the Adisthanam with the sanctified water of the homam.

Endowment Lecture held

The Centenarian Trust's Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal Annual Endowment Lecture was held in the benign presence of His Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji. The Lecture was delivered by Tamil Scholar Pulavar Sri Ma.Ve. Pasupati. The endowment lecture is organized every year on the Jayanthi day of His Holiness. Students and faculty members of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya and other devotees participated.

Golden Chariot Procession

A portrait and vigraha of His Holiness Pujyasri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Shankarachary Swamiji was taken in a procession in the decorated golden chariot along the Raja Veedhis. His Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji accompanied the procession. A large number of devotees participated in the procession, which was led by Mangala Vadyam and the temple elephant Jayanthi.

Musical Concerts held

Musical concerts were held in the evenings. On the 12th, Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri. Anayampatti Ganesan gave a Jalatarangam concert. Day 2 (13th) saw a Mandolin concert by Sri. U. Srinivas, Asthana Vidwan of Srimatam.On the Jayanthi day, Srimatam Asthana Vidwan Sri. Rajesh Vaidya's Veena Recital was held.Their Holines Blessed all the artists.

Books Released

As part of the Jayanthi Celebrations, a book titled Sankshepa Dharma Sastram was released by His Holiness. Another book titled Sariraka Catussutri Vicara of Bellankonda Ramarayakavi written by Sri. R. Balasubramanian and brought out by Sri Adi Sankara Advaita Research Centre was dedicated to Their Holinesses Pujyasri Acharya Swamijis.

Kacchi Modoor Trust - Honorarium distributed

Honorarium was given by His Holiness to the Gurukals and Archakas under the scheme of the Kachi Modoor Welfare Trust. The Trust was instituted by His Holiness Pujyasri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji to support the needy Archakas and Gurukals, especially from rural areas.
